So, here I sit writing my first blog article for my very own website (fancy, right?) and yet I am wearing yoga pants, Dave Matthews Band hoodie sweatshirt (I LOVE DMB as you will probably hear too much about but tough), hair is in a ponytail and there might have been some kind of rap music playing earlier this morning. I am sitting here asking myself, so who do you think you are, Mrs. Fancy Pants? Why would anyone want to read what you have to say? Well, I don’t know that anyone will and they might not for a long time. But I am going to be fearless and do it anyway because it’s my passion and I feel called to.
What is this passion that makes me be so fearless in such a daring outfit as I am wearing now? Well, I have come to realize over my 30 years in healthcare management that I LOVE helping small businesses grow and achieve their dreams. I have successfully done that in all of the businesses that I have managed over the years. Now, I feel compelled to share what I know about success with others who may have the vision and the dream but need help in achieving them.
Like many of you, I have been the “Queen of Everything”, at every “job” I have ever held. This is an actual title on our company website which I wear proudly, even in the slippers I am rocking as I write this. What that really means is that I always put everything I can into learning what I did not know, always asking questioning, innovating, putting in processes, helping set purpose, values and mission, managing people, putting out fires, etc. Essentially, I was dealing with all the problems of the entrepreneur without having any of the upside of being an entrepreneur. While I won’t lie and say that I don’t like to work under pressure and must have some sick subconscious need for suffering (LOL), I have gone through it all! I get incredible satisfaction from my work as the COO of a thriving Integrative & Functional Internal Medicine Office due to the never ending challenges, opportunities and the truly life changing work that we do there. But, I do find myself being pulled to share more of what I have learned and just be fearless in hopes that it might help others move toward achieving their goals and dreams and be successful in life.
So, who is Mrs. Fancy Pants?
As you will come to soon figure out, I am a very hard worker, loyal, inquisitive, passionate, relentless, highly experienced in business, very sarcastic, more than a little of a potty mouth, smart, a very quick learner and driven to succeed. Over the many years, I have learned how successful businesses run and how they don’t. That was all fine and good before the internet arrived and changed everything for small businesses. Since that revolution, I have seen the light, as they say, and I have seen how small businesses that embrace the power of the internet, set proper planning and vision for their business and execute that plan wisely have amazing success. Isn’t that obvious for anyone starting or running a business, you might be asking? Unfortunately, that is absolutely not the case. Many people have incredible business ideas but have no skill set or ability to “know what they don’t know” and they get overwhelmed and either never start or even worse, do start and ultimately end up financially destroyed from the failed endeavor.
So, that is why Mrs. Fancy Pants is sitting here all dolled up writing her inaugural blog post. I am going to see where this passion for helping small businesses and others succeed takes me and hope that you all find something of value in what I have to offer. I also hope that you laugh out loud…a lot…because it’s good for your soul and your wrinkle lines. One of my other passions is making people laugh, so I truly hope I can make you smile with some of what I share and enlighten you at the same time.
Oh, and it doesn’t matter what you wear to be successful. I can wear these yoga pants and hoodie and still rock it out. Look at the success of Colonel Sanders and that outfit he was wearing! Well this “in her prime” chick will be looking as hot tomorrow as I can get in a skirt and boots and he will still be wearing the same outfit! Oh but wait, who is raking in the chicken cash and who is not? And damn, he makes delicious chicken! Hahaha!
Much Love and Success,
